Nominating Petitions for 2020 Municipal Election Available Beginning Thursday, January 2, 2020

Teaneck, NJ – On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, a Municipal Election will be held to fill three (3) Councilmember seats. The seats will be for a four-year term beginning on July 1, 2020. Current Councilmembers Henry Pruitt, Mark Schwartz, and Mohammed Hameeduddin’s terms will expire on June 30, 2020. All candidates run as council members-at-large and the Mayor and Deputy Mayors will be elected by the Township Council at the Re-Organization Meeting on July 1st.
For those interested in running for a position on the Township Council, nominating petitions will be available beginning Thursday, January 2, 2020 and can be retrieved from the Township Clerk’s Office, located in the Administration Building, 818 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, New Jersey. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:45-8, a minimum of 278 valid nominating petitions must be filed to secure a position on the ballot.
Each candidate must be a Teaneck resident for a minimum of one year as of the date of the Municipal Election, a citizen of the United States, a registered voter, and at least 18 years of age.
All petition signers must be registered voters in Teaneck. Signed petitions must be returned to the Township Clerk’s Office by Monday, March 9, 2020 by 4:00 P.M., no exceptions.
