{"id":4532,"date":"2020-04-01T21:00:40","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T21:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/?p=4532"},"modified":"2020-04-01T23:44:49","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T23:44:49","slug":"a-tale-of-two-charts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/health\/a-tale-of-two-charts\/","title":{"rendered":"A Tale of Two Charts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First caveat: I created the first chart (based on numbers I received from the manager), so errors are possible despite my efforts to be accurate.<br \/>\nSecond caveat: we do not have good data sets because testing is not yet available for widespread use.\u00a0 The charts below are based on those tested after showing symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>The data below are the same in each chart.<\/p>\n<p>The first chart shows the number of cases reported as presumptive positive in Teaneck.\u00a0 Despite all of our efforts, cases will continue to rise.<\/p>\n<p>But &#8212; the second chart shows the rate at which those presumptive positives are doubling.\u00a0 The second chart is <span id=\":fw.co\" class=\"tL8wMe EMoHub\" dir=\"ltr\">on a &#8220;log vertical scale&#8221;, which provides equal intervals for doubling effects (i.e. the space between 5 to 10 is equal to the space between 50 to 100).\u00a0 The second chart also contains two exponential fits for the data sets.<\/span><span id=\":fx.co\" class=\"tL8wMe EMoHub\" dir=\"ltr\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What the graph shows<\/h2>\n<p>They started to double within a predicted time-frame of 2.09 days.\u00a0 That appears to have slowed to 5.7 days (thus far) through self-isolation measures.<\/p>\n<p>Teaneck&#8217;s Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin called for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/mayor-of-new-jersey-covid-19-hub-urges-township-of-40000-to-self-quarantine\/2326972\/\">self isolating<\/a> ourselves on March 14th.\u00a0 Look at what started to happen on the chart between 3\/14 and 3\/21.<\/p>\n<h1>Bottom line: Self isolation and washing our hands WORKS.<\/h1>\n<p>This will provide our healthcare system time to #FlattenTheCurve&#8230;.\u00a0 <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">but only if we keep it up<\/span><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Presumptive-Positive-Char-2020-03-31.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4539\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Presumptive-Positive-Char-2020-03-31.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"834\" height=\"583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Presumptive-Positive-Char-2020-03-31.jpg 834w, https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Presumptive-Positive-Char-2020-03-31-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Presumptive-Positive-Char-2020-03-31-768x537.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 834px) 100vw, 834px\" \/>\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Doubling-Graph.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4534 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Doubling-Graph.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"844\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Doubling-Graph.png 576w, https:\/\/www.teanecktoday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Teaneck-Doubling-Graph-300x204.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 844px) 100vw, 844px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First caveat: I created the first chart (based on numbers I received from the manager), so errors are possible despite my efforts to be accurate.
