Grace Terrace (between Sagamore & Woods) Traffic Study and Police Reports

The Teaneck Police Department was asked to conduct a report as to traffic and safety on Grace Terrace (which runs between Sagamore Avenue and Woods Road).

Here are the findings:

On Monday, September 17, 2018, Deputy Chief John Faggello forwarded an anonymous “Report It” notification complaining of speeding on Grace Terrace. The complainant reported that vehicles are proceeding at speeds of at least 50 MPH at all hours of the day. In response to the complaint, the Traffic Bureau performed a speed and volume study and a site survey.

Grace Terrace is a two-block residential street with a 25 MPH speed limit. It runs between Sagamore Avenue and Woods Road, a distance of approximately 1/10th of a mile. Southbound Grace Terrace traffic must stop at the T-intersection with Sagamore Avenue. Northbound Grace Terrace must make a right turn onto Woods Road. Grace Terrace is often used by vehicles entering and exiting Route 4 eastbound at Belle Avenue.

On September 18, 2018 at approximately 10:30 AM, Officer Brittingham placed the Speed Sentry traffic analyzer mid-block near 1020 Grace Terrace. The analyzer was positioned to detect vehicles traveling northbound on Grace Terrace. Over the course of the study, which spanned from Tuesday, September 18, 2018 through Saturday, September 22, 2018, 1,119 vehicles were detected by the traffic analyzer, an average northbound volume of 224 vehicles per day.

The average speed of all vehicles was 17 MPH. The 85th percentile speed was recorded at 18 MPH. 1,115 of the 1,119 vehicles detected were traveling between 11 MPH and 25 MPH. The remaining four vehicles were slightly exceeding the speed limit at speeds between 26 MPH and 29 MPH.

Based on the investigation conducted, there does not appear to be a speeding problem on Grace Terrace. The Traffic Bureau will conduct periodic monitoring and enforcement in the area.
