Mosquito Control Event – Street Treatment [Update]

The Bergen County Mosquito Control Division will be conducting an area treatment in the area shown below. Such treatment will be applied this Friday, September 21, 2018, weather permitting. In the event of rain, the treatment will be rescheduled for Sunday, September 23, 2018.

Bergen County Mosquito Control informed us that they have received almost 700 calls from residents in Teaneck requesting treatment in their area. The County regularly tests areas and when Bergen County Mosquito Control tested several areas in the treatment area, all of them indicated positive for the West Nile Virus. Spraying in the treatment area will effectively reduce the exposure of the West Nile Virus to residents.

The message is being disseminated in various methods, including a reverse-911 that will go out shortly to those in the affected area.

The hours of treatment will be between 4am – 6am. Please be advised, that residents in the focus area, should keep windows closed during treatment and up to one hour after treatment.  Air conditioning units can remain on as the filter will catch any air borne particles. The aerosol used dissipates within 15 minutes. Any remaining residue dries within 3 hours.

Two trucks from Bergen County Mosquito Control will cover the area. The trucks travel at 10 mph. Spotters will be on hand in the event a pedestrian is seen walking in the area of treatment. The machine will be shut down if any pedestrians are in the area.

With regards to vegetables, whether spraying is done or not, residents should always wash/rinse before consuming.
